Get Trained as an AVM on June 26 Blog Voting and Elections

Janaagraha’s ‘Jaagte Raho!’ is a programme that addresses issues of voting. From registration, preparation of voter ID card, correcting errors in details, addition of names to the electoral rolls to casting an informed vote, the programme seeks to improve processes in electoral system.

To make citizens part of the solution, Jaagte Raho! has introduced the concept of Area Voter Mitra (AVM) – a network of trained and well-informed citizens who are willing to mobilize their neighbourhoods to vote and exercise their right to good governance. Read more »

After nearly four long years, Bangalore finally has a local government. The recent BBMP elections held on March 28, 2010 saw 44% of the voting population in the city turn out to elect the corporator for their respective wards.

Knowing their candidates in one of the largest wards in Bangalore was definitely not easy. (Ward 7-Byataranayapura has 50 polling booths!) Although we had a strong network of AVMs (Pramod, Chakrapani, Mamtha from ward 7, and Rekha, Saraswathi, and George from nearby ward 6) in this ward and they had the support of the Federation of RWAs of Hebbal-Kempapura area, the task was definitely not simple.
